SoCal's Good Time Banjo Band

The San Gabriel Valley
Ole Tyme Banjo Band

Founded by Lee Chapman and Monalisa Lentini, The SAN GABRIEL VALLEY OLE TYME BANJO BAND was established on January 25, 2003 with a nucleus of 8 banjos and 1 tuba player. The band's first "gig” was February 2, 2003 when it was invited to entertain at the first year anniversary of Danny's Kosher Pickle in Covina, Ca. We were invited back and this restaurant has been our home where we
play and practice to a packed house monthly. Our performance is the first Saturday of every month from 5:30-7:30pm.

From our original 9 members, we have had steady growth and now have the support of 25 band members. The SAN GABRIEL VALLEY OLE TYME BANJO BAND is one of the largest banjo bands in Southern California and continues to grow in both popularity and membership. We welcome those banjo players who would like to sit in with us, however, space is limited so requesting in
advance is recommended. There is presently a small waiting list for full band membership.

With the combination of 22 banjos, tuba, piano and gut bucket, the band delivers an exciting, electrifying and stimulating performance as can be witnessed at any of its venues. You'll love the driving rhythm of the banjos as they deliver those great songs of the early 1900's, 20's, 30's and the riverboat era. Previous performances have included the city of Monterey Park, Santa Barbara County Fair, special guest appearance at the Covina Concert Band Summer Music Festival, and annual performances at the Orange County Fair. The band is also available for parties, anniversaries, fundraisers and anywhere happy music is wanted.

On September 30,2006 the SAN GABRIEL VALLEY OLE TYME BANJO BAND will be making a historical appearance at Shakey's Pizza in El Monte, Ca. To our knowledge, this
performance will be the first time a banjo band has played in a Shakey's Pizza Parlor in Southern
California and possibly the entire United States....Yes, Banjo's are back at Shakey's! An
overflow and enthusiastic crowd is expected for this historic event.

Our primary goals are:
(1) Provide an open venue for banjo players throughout
Southern California.
(2) Provide an opportunity for banjo players to
improve their playing abilities and techniques.
(3) Promote the four string banjo and encourage young
people to take an interest in learning this unique all
American instrument.
(4) Promote good times, happiness and fun.
